brand new toy

I finally gave in to the technological wave and bought myself a brand new toy...a Samsung Galaxy S...

I am well aware that I am not going to use this gadget at its full capacity, but at least I hope I will have acces to a wider range of information using only one device.

Let's see how much this will last :))

The precious ice cream:)

I don't even remember when it started, but there was a moment in my life when I declared myself an ice cream devouring person. There isn't anything in this life a good ice cream bucket cannot fix:))

Last night as I was digging with a spoon in one...I started to wonder when was the brilliant moment this amazing dessert was invented...and what other place to look then the allmighty Wikipedia :)

"Precursors of ice cream

In the Persian Empire, people would pour grape-juice concentrate over snow, in a bowl, and eat this as a treat, especially when the weather was hot. Snow would either be saved in the cool-keeping underground chambers known as "yakhchal", or taken from snowfall that remained at the top of mountains by the summer capital - Hagmatana of today. In 400 BC, the Persians went further and invented a special chilled food, made of rose water and vermicelli, which was served to royalty during summers. The ice was mixed with saffron, fruits, and various other flavours.

Ancient civilizations have served ice for cold foods for thousands of years. The BBC reports that a frozen mixture of milk and rice was used in China around 200 BC.
The Roman Emperor Nero (37–68) had ice brought from the mountains and combined with fruit toppings. These were some early chilled delicacies.

Arabs were perhaps the first to use milk as a major ingredient in the production of ice cream. They sweetened it with sugar rather than fruit juices, and perfected means of commercial production. As early as the 10th century, ice cream was widespread amongst many of the Arab world's major cities, such as Baghdad, Damascus and Cairo. It was produced from milk or cream, often with some yoghurt, and was flavoured with rosewater, dried fruits and nuts. It is believed that the recipe was based on older Ancient Arabian, Mesopotamian, Greek or Roman recipes, which were probably the first and precursors to Persian faloodeh.

True ice cream

Ice cream recipes first appear in 18th-century England and America. A recipe for ice cream was published in Mrs. Mary Eales's Receipts in London in 1718.

The earliest reference to ice cream given by the Oxford English Dictionary is from 1744, reprinted in a magazine in 1877. 1744 in Pennsylvania Mag. Hist. & Biogr. (1877) I. 126 Among the rarities..was some fine ice cream, which, with the strawberries and milk, eat most deliciously.

The 1751 edition of The Asrt of Cookery made Plain and Easy by Hannah Glasse features a recipe for ice cream. OED gives her recipe: H. GLASSE Art of Cookery (ed. 4) 333 (heading) To make Ice Cream..set it [sc. the cream] into the larger Bason. Fill it with Ice, and a Handful of Salt."

The history of ice cream is long as it should be for any divine thing created in this world. Thanks God for ICE CREAM :))

Storks path

I am currently in the Cluj Napoca International Airport...just finished the one week audit in Bistrita and we're just waiting for the plane.

Of course there is already a 30 minutes delay announced and I thought I can take advantage and write a little post about my week in Bistrita.

It's not my first time in Bistrita, but the thing that impressed me the most and which I haven't noticed before was the huge amount of storks living on the way from Cluj Napoca to Bistrita, about 120 km.

In each village, on most of the electricity poles there were one, two or even three storks...younger, older...they were just staying, relaxing in their own nest. Some places the local authorities even helped them a little bit by installing a metal stand on the pole so that they won't build the nest right on the electricity wires. There were also couples flying, almost floating on air with their large wings spread. Wonderfull birds, respected and loved by the locals.

Have to go!

Love you. Take care.

New plans...new adventure...

It all started from a legal day off...the 15th of August was declared last year day off by the Romanian state, so ever since spring I have began thinking which was the best way to take advantage of it and spend an extended weekend.

A friend came on night with the idea to visit Chisinau, the capital city of our neighbour country Moldova...and that's when I thought a little farther and propose Kiev.

Since then, me and my travelling best friend researched for a possible road trip to Ukraine. We've read blogs and travel guides, we've talked to people and ended up with a plan of 9 days :)...if we leave we might as well do it with style...and here is the final result:

The road trip is schedule to start on the 12 of august, Friday evening with the return in Bucharest on the 21st.

We still are looking for volunteers...so if it arises your curiosity you know where to find me.

Sunday story

So yesterday evening was Monumental ... I do not even know where to start

It all began around 8 am when I went to the trains station to pick up a french girl coming from sofia and staying with me for some days. The first surprise was the incredible delay of the train (205 min)...but she finally get there around 10 am. She came out of the train together with a dutch couple and I felt the need to helped them out so I took them to the location of their accommodation.

The middle of the day was uneventful...we had lunch, a walk in the park, a nap and the fun started at 6 pm when we went to meet up with a guide who offered "Walking Free" tours of the city (the first time I've heard of such a thing)...and the guy organizing the tour was quite good with the stories

We met him, the dutch couple from the train station and some other foreign people in the Unirii square and from there, with a group of about 20 persons we left for the old city center.

Inevitably I got to talk to some of the other people in the group - as I was talking in English with my french couchsurfer everyone else thought I was foreign too

There was this group of seven individuals from Spain ... yeah, my favorite people ... of which only two understood and spoke English ... so you can imagine how the other five kept trying to know what the hell was going on :))

All well and good until one of the other five came to me and showed me a calendar with some of the most known sites in Romania (thinking I was foreign and all of that was new to me) ... and I just wanted to make small talk and tried to ask him about their plans in Romania, but he didn't understand I word I was saying so we called one of the guys that did know English.

The guy comes and we began to talk in English about their future plans - he tells me that they have to spend 11 days in Romania , two in Bucharest, go 2 days in the Danube's Delta, then Brasov, Cluj and so on until Maramures, because one of them is from Romania ... and guess who exactly the one I was tormenting to understand myself with... the I just looked at the guy and told him in Romanian:"then we can talk in Romanian" and then he just burst in laugh and "You're romanian...why didn't you say so?" ... and all hell broke loose...I was talking in Romanian with the Romanian guy...he was translating in Spanish to the rest of the guys and the ones knowing English were talking to me in English

As we were going alone our tour, the storm brakes loose... things start falling from buildings, trees and branches flying and soon enough rain started to pour by the bucket and that's when we started running (it was about 10 min) towards the Old Town and we all got in the basement of a restaurant

We began talking again, just to settle what each one of us was doing in Bucharest and the plans for the future and I just heard my french friend she would like to accompany the 7 spanish guys in their trip up north:))

Around 9.30pm ... we moved to Caru cu Bere ... they had "sarmalute" and "mititei" until 12pm, keep on talking all the way through the dinner:) and it was getting crazy as every time I attempt to explain something and I couldn't make myself understood in English, I talked with the romanian guy and he translated into Spanish...or the other way around:))

Around 12 we said our goodbyes, wishing everyone a great romanian adventure. I left Caru cu Bere with my french friend and the guide ... I was tried to walk home so we wanted to try to take the famous night buses and I don't know how exactly we found exactly the one with a control on it. I saw them from the beginning but it was to late to leave the bus so I just told the guide we should pretend we are foreigners and we don't understand anything. And then was when the show began. We started arguing with them (a guy and a woman), but they kept on asking for money, we kept on playing dumb...until the bus stopped in front of a police car:))...and the circus continued with the cops too...until my french friend gave up and paid them the fine(50 ron for all three)

that was all ... I'll keep you posted on the spanish-french adventure of my 8 new friends:))

Love u. Take care.

The crater

Summer has finally kicked in...36 degrees in the shade and un-breathable air...that's what we got this weekend.

And if that was not enough I don't know if it's only me but I think this city is becoming a huge crater. Everywhere I went this weekend and even on my way to work there are everywhere digging sites...and we all know how good they are at making holes and leaving them like that.

Let's take alone the old city center, which has been a construction site for the past years and no real progress can be noticed. Even the works done last years are being repaired over and over again. The streets are full of sand, sewer holes and all kinds of traps.

This is Romania...like it or not we live in it so we have to accept it.

Love u. Take care.

The first step towards a new adventure

Ever since I came back from India I was thinking of the next great adventure. It's easy to dream and to think that someday you may get the opportunity to visit the places you go when you are sleeping...but if you don't take some chances and trust yourself you will never make it.

Yesterday I made the first step, the most important one - buy the plane ticket - to a new and wonderfull adventure: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil...more exactly the Rio Carnival.

The Crnival of Brazil is an annual festival held forty-six days before Easter. Carnival celebrations are believed to have roots in the pagan festival of Saturnalia, which, adapted to Christianity, became a farewell to bad things in a season of religious discipline to practice repentance and prepare for Christ's death and resurrection.

Rhythm, participation, and costumes vary from one region of Brazil to another. This carnival is heavily influenced by African-Brazilian culture. Crowds follow the trio electricos floats through the city streets.

The carnival is the most famous holiday in Brazil and has become an event of huge proportions. The country stops completely for almost a week and festivities are intense, day and night, mainly in coastal cities. The consumption of beer accounts for 80% of annual consumption and tourism receives 70% of annual visitors.

7 months and 12 days to go:))

Under the weather

I don't know how it happens but lately I haven't been able to synchronize my mood to the weather's changes. Each time I've had the mood to do something outdoors the sudden little violent storms have always ruined my plans.

Last weekend when it was sunny and hot outside I have lost the entire weekend shopping or sleeping or just wandering around the apartment.

Now that I want to go somewhere out of this city the all the weather forecasts say that it's going to rain the whole weekend :(

So now I can really say that I am under the weather.

To compensate

A couple of weeks ago I've started to go to the gym for some aerobic...you know that half an hour of sports per day that tell us on TV to do:)...and I have got to the following conclusion: people like to compensate.

I don't know how many of you noticed so far how short guys usually feel the need to strengthen their bodies just to compensate with the fact that they are short and they cannot do anything about that, while tall men usually are very thin, with almost no desire to become a block of muscles, just happy with the chance to see everyone from a taller position.

When it comes to women it's the other way around...short girls will do anything to their bodies just to make them noticeable, while tall one will let slide a little fat here and there focusing more on the idea that the hight will mask it.

It's impressive to what extent some people go just to look nice...and it's sad when they do stupid things just to impress another person and not because they want to feel good in their skin.

My opinion is that each one has to love and respect him/her self, because if they don't do that they cannot expect others to do it.

let's fly

Since I've began blogging a year ago I also started to read other persons' blogs...some are boring, some are just for gossip, but there are also some that are informative and challenging.

From such a blog I found the following challenge which I am also giving it to you today...I know that most of my friends and I hope that most of the people that read this blog love to travel and will find this an opportunity to do so...so, the idea is that KLM gives us the opportunity to fly to Amsterdam...ya, it's a contest...I know that most people hate getting into this kind of things because they are skeptical of the outcome...but believe me when i tell you that this one has a very funny and entertaining part...so let's do it for the fun:)

All you need to do is to use the Facebook application (I know how much you love facebook) Romania KLM create your own "Tile" - by choosing a picture, put a little make up and choose a slogan. Finally the the Facebook application will allow you to save the picture you created on your computer so you can admire yourself and even use it as a new screensaver :))

Hope I got you interested...and to give you a sample of the final result here is my masterpiece (after totally blowing the first one:))):

Ready....steady...go....

Good luck to you all!

Love u. Take care.

Free for all

Last Saturday night was European Museum Night, which takes place every year in the middle of May, when museum doors open free of charge and people flock to see and participate in the many cultural activities and spectacles put on for the delight of all. The atmosphere is both festive and cultural. The fun lasts from sundown until late in the morning and it is proving to be a big hit with children, young people and veteran museum-goers alike.

At the begining I didn't realy want to go because I knew from last year's night that half of the city rushed to the museums and in the middle of the night the center of the city was paralyzed with cars...but as I didn't have anything better to do, I went.

I left home around 10.30 pm...first on the list was Bellu Museum, the biggest and one of the oldest cemetery of the city. I had seen it before, a couple of years ago, but never went into a cemetery during the night. I was suprised to see that they realy organised the place, with signs, visiting maps and lighted candles on the main paths.

Next was the Museum of National Contemporary Art, which is situated in the back side of the People's House. From the moment I saw the amount of cars parked everywhere around the entrance I could imagine what queue awaited us at the entrance....

...but after only half an hour we managed to get in and I was very suprised of what we found inside...4 floors, each with different a theme.

It took us a while to go through all the exhibits and around 2.30 a.m. we decided to go home. Overall it was a very nice and pleasent experience and I really recommend it for the future.

Love u. Take care.

how could you?...how could I?

In the last years I've experienced quite a lot that terrible feeling of not recognizing a person who once had a very important role in my life: friend, boyfriend, colleague and even parent...and I began thinking that all that time, spent with them, believing they were different was all a lie...that my life was a lie.

The person I am today wouldn't have accepted most of them and cannot imagine how they ended to affect me so much. But the truth is that disappointment changes everything. It makes me group people on behave of mistakes made by others and I know that's not fair but the instinct of self defense is stronger than anything else. I always say that it takes time and patience to know someone for real but I think I ran out of patience a lot time ago. This may explain the fact that all my close friends are those I had 10 years ago and since then the new ones were all just passing through.

I hate when people I used to trust disappoint me, from one reason or another. It was my fault too, because I am very demanding and maybe I ask people more than they can afford to give. So if I don't ask I won't get disappointed...perfect solution, right? I just have to figure that out.

The teddy bear incident

The following story happened last Saturday night and it's known as "The teddy bear incident". People who know me pretty well know that I have at my car key a teddy bear keychain so I can easily find it in my bag.

Last Saturday I went to a club with some old good friends who I hadn't seen for a while. The club was El grande Comandante. I don't know how many of you know it, but that thing is like a maze, with endless hallways and many little rooms.

When I usually go clubs I don't like to carry a bag, because I am afraid I might lose it in the crowd, so that night I just took my phone and some money in one pocket and my car key in the other pocket - with the teddy bear hanging outside my jeans.

At one moment in the evening, around 1 a.m. one of my friends wanted to leave and because he didn't know the place I took him to the exit. It was pouring outside, so I just said goodbye and went back in the club. After getting down the staires, I realized the teddy bear was gone...and with it my car key. I freaked out and went directly out in the rain to see if my car is still there - the fact was that I really tried to park it as close to the club as possible, so anyone who had found the key and played a little bit with it could have found the car - great...right? The club was packed, there were hundreds of people everywhere, find the key by myself was close to impossible.

I was already thinking I had to stay all night guarding my car in the pouring rain and I didn't even wanted to go back in the club. As I was staying by the door of the club, trying to call one of my friends up to tell her the story, I thought I might ask the 5 gorillas guarding the entrance if I can talk with someone about the incident.

"What car do you have?" asked one of them. I didn't want to tell them...but I hadn't anything else to lose (except my car:)) so I finaly told them. After letting me boil for a minute or two one of them took out of his pocket my car key and starting waving it in front of my eyes asking me how am I going to prove that it's the key of my car. They eventually gave me my key back but not without making a little fun first.

That's the story of how I almost lost my car key. I began thinking that it was quite impossible for the key to just fell down of my pocket...but as the story had a happy end, I decided to take the positive part and think that there are still some good guys in this freaking city.

I'm still kicking:)

Hope nobody thought that I forgot about my precious blog...well, I didn't, I just wasn't in the mood...it must have been from the awful weather and the stinky rain that always drops uninvited:)

Since my last post I've experienced an Easter, with a lot of food, drinks and guests, a labour day (1st of May) which was unfortunately for us this year a Sunday, but we still took advantage of the weekend and went to visit a Salt Mine - Ocnele Mari and last week the company organized a work shop somewhere in Slanic Moldova...very far and very cold...fortunately for me I was one of the few that got away without a cold (at least until now).

What else???...oh, ya...I am planning a trip to Kiev this summer, most probably in august, 4 days by car...if anyone is interested you know where to find me.

Promise to be back very soon:)

This and that

I've been quite lazy lately and not in the writing mood...it must be from the weather:)) What has been on?...Well first weekend after getting back from India we organized a bike trip to Caldarusani Monastery. Although we knew there would be about 70 km to the monastery and back, we were confident in our physical abilities. We settled the meeting point at Obor, around 11. Of course people were late...so we left around 12.

We were 11 at first, but at an intersection 4 of us took another turn. The first 1 hour, one hour and a half was ok...but when we got out of the city in plain field...there was this terrible wind practically holding us back. And that's how only around 4 p.m. we where arriving at the wonderful monastery. There we met with the others and after taking our breaths for a while we headed back as it was getting pretty late.

The way back was awfully paniful...we had to fight the wind again and we were exhausted. It's hard to explain in words how we managed to get back...so I better stop here and talk about something more nice.

Last week I had to go in a mission in Sighisoara and had the chance to rediscover this old city. The first time I went to Sighisoara I was 14 years old I think and it was nice to get to see it now...with new eyes and I amased to see that some places were the same...some were new, but on the overall it was the same city.

Now...I'm back at the office...same old...same old...waitting for Easter...2 more weeks to go:)

Indians know about Romania

As I already told you, we were the attraction of all the pairs of eyes everywhere we went...and many of them wouldn't stop at just staring, but also making conversation, taking pictures...with or without asking permission...and even if sometimes we felt harassed by their "curiosity" we learned to live with them and go ignoring them most of the time.

I think most of you saw those little movies on youtube where Americans don't know of the existence of such a country as Romania and some not even about Europe....So you can imagine my surprise to see that, even though many of them were illiterate, the Indians knew about Romania, they knew that it's a country in Europe, near to Russia, Bulgaria, Ukraine and that it's a former communist country. And I am not talking here just about a couple of people...but all of the hundreds that just came to us, said "hello", asked "where are you from?", received the answer, told us anything they knew (most of which correct), smiled and went on.

There's the saying that "curiosity killed the cat", but I didn't even know the right meaning of the word before India...those guys are really curious.

Experimenting India

So we finally got to india...into an indian home...to an indian bed...and even though we were exhausted from the travel we just slept 2 hours we opened the door and took a first taste of india: narrow, dusty streets...chaotic trafic...people walking on the streets with the cars, bicycles and here and there a cow...monkeys on the rooftops of the houses...and that's just from the view from the apartment's balcony.

The first second we stepped out of the apartment building we became the attraction of all the pairs of eyes on the street. Everyone was practically staring at us...and then I realized that we were for them like the monkeys on the rooftops for us.

The first surprise was the subway...newly opened in 2010 it looked quite modern and nice. Even though it was a Sunday there were quite a lot of persons waiting in ordered line for the metro...but when the trained came the order was broken and everyone was pushing to get in and the ones from inside were stuggling to get out. What the hell had happened to all the order you may ask...oh, well...the thing is that if you wait like a normal person, like we did for the first time, for all the people to get out of the train you will probably remain on the platform as the doors closed automatically no matter if all the people got out or in.

The next thing that intrigued us was the strict security...they had scanners for luggage and persons controlling you from head to the toes...armed guys at each entrance...little barracks made out of sand bags behind which an armed man was staying...it was a little to much if I can say so...but, it was Asia...you know...the land of terorism.

Also at the metro we noticed everywhere signs forbidding spitting...but everywhere...and we were like:"how much can this people spit?'...weeeelll...pretty much. They buy little bags of tobbaco, they chew it and after a while spit everything out on the streets...it's quite disgusting. So...for them spitting at the metro is the worse offense and is punished by law.

I think that's enough for today...many more stories to come.

Love u. Take care.

Let the tale begin

OK...I'm back...safe and sound (at least for the moment, the side effects are yet to come:))...and at everyone's question of "how was it?" I could just say:"totally different from what I have ever lived before, it's like another planet".

The first nice surprise was the how the Turkish Airlines treat their customers. Those 4 flights (bucharest-istanbul, istanbul-delhi and return) worth every cent of those 640 euro we paid.

We arrived in New Delhi's international airport in a Sunday morning, 5 am local time - 1.30 am romanian time. It was a gigantic building with endless halls, equipped with conveyors and covered entirely in carpets. At the end of each conveyor there were restrooms where a nice Indian lady would welcome you with a warm Namaste.

There were 2 old guys at the passport control who thought it funny we were from Romania and starting laughing from one another on our behave and mentioning Ceausescu...the greatest romanian of them all:))

After recovering our luggage we followed the instructions of our indian friends and went in search of a taxi. From the very first contact with an indian salesman we know that these guys will always try to take advantage of the foreigners asking ridiculous sums of money, hoping to make a fortune. They were asking 1200 rupees for a prepaid, but we know we shouldn't pay more than 600. We just took one from in front of the airport after negotiating the sum of 500 rupees as the fee of our drive.

Another surprise was that the driver didn't know the address and that there were no inscriptions on any street in that city (fact which was proven over and over again until the end of our trip). Fortunately for us the guy who was supposed to host us called and explained the driver where exactly is his house. After wandering the streets about half an hour we finally got to the right.

The guy was actually a 19 year old young man who had great care of us, showing us around, cooking and answering to all our pretty stupid questions...but about that I'll tell you more in a future post.

Love u. Take care.

Here we are...

The day has come...tomorrow I am leaving for what I am sure to be one in a lifetime experience. I've been planing this trip for almost 3 months and I am so excited right now that I don't think I'm going to get much sleep tonight.

I can't say that the next two weeks will change my life, but I'm sure I'll be talking about them for a looooong...loooong...time.

See you when I get back.

Mada out.

This was not my fucking day

I had a terrible day at work...can't explain really why...but it was crappy and when I finally got out of there I really hoped to have some fun and I went to the mall to see a movie.

Of course that being Wednesday night the entire mall was full and everyone was at the line to buy movie tickets.

Of course we had to sweat 15 minutes at the damn line to buy some tickets.

Of course the movie we wanted to see was sold out and we had to buy front row seats to another movie.

All of these I somehow expected to happen...I handled them well, but what happened afterward needs to be told.

On my way home, after parking my car, I realized that I couldn't find the key. Fortunately for me my flat mates were home and I could get in. After searching the room for about 15 minutes, I decided to go to check the car too. NOTHING. No clue of what had happened with my key. i tried to remember what I had done the day before. Still NOTHING. I went through all the drawers and at the end I found it. I' m usually getting anxious when searching for something I should find easily.

After getting rid of that stress I took a shower and being very tired I was getting ready for bed. before I go to sleep I check my phone to see if the alarm clock is set for the next day. And then, surprise...the phone was gone. as usually I took my other phone and called myself on the other number. The phone was not in the room. Went again to the car, called again...the phone was not in the car either. Then I realized I have lost it at the cinema. I was already making planes of buying a new phone. But I was feeling terrible about all the phone numbers so I tried to call again...and I was surprised someone answered to my phone...it was the manager of the cinema, telling me that the staff has found my phone and that I could go and retrieve it...and that's how at almost midnight I was wandering the mall in search of my "precious" phone.

I should keep them all hanging on my neck as I used to keep the key in the first grade so I won't lose them again.

I usually learn from my mistakes...so hope to be more careful in the future.

Love u. Take care.

Martisor

Today is first of March, the simbolic begining of spring. Unfortunatly otside it's still snowing and there's no sign of better weather any time soon.

Mărțișor is a traditional celebration of the beginning of Spring, on 1 March. The name Mărțișor is the diminutive of marț, the old folk name for March(Martie, in modern Romanian), and thus literally means "little" or "dear March". It is also the folk name for this month.

Mărțișor, marţ and mărțiguș are all names for the red and white (or black and white, also blue and white) string, from which usually a small decoration is tied, and which is offered by people on the 1st day of March. Giving this talisman to other people is an old custom, and it is believed that the one who wears the red and white string will be powerful and healthy for the year to come. It is also a symbol of the coming spring. Usually, women wear it pinned to their blouses for the first 12 days of this month, until other certain spring celebrations, or until the bloom of certain fruit-trees. In some regions, a gold or silver coin is hanged from the string, which they wear it around the neck. After wearing it for a certain period of time, they buy red wine and sweet cheese with the coin, according to the belief that their faces would remain beautiful and white as cheese, and rubicund as the red wine, for the entire year.

In modern times, the MărÈ›iÈ™or lost most of its talisman properties and became more of a symbol of friendship and love, appreciation and respect. The black threads were replaced with red, but the delicate wool ropes are still a ‘cottage industry’ among the country people. They still comb out the wool, dye the floss, and twist it into thousands of tassels. In certain areas the amulets are still made with black and white ropes, for warding off evil.

Nowadays evrything with a little white and red string can be considered a martisor. The merchants take advantage of the meaning of this day in order to gain as much as possible.

For some years now, I just wear a string around my wrist as a bracelet and I think that is enough.

If the spring does't come to us...

It's almost the end of february and the winter is giving its last punch: cold weather, wind and snow...it would all be great somewhere else, but not in Bucharest, where everything moves in slow motion.

As I watch out the window at the white cover of snow I can't help thinking that in 2 weeks from now I'm going to be at 25 degrees celsius...so if the spring doesn't come to us...we go to her:) 15 more days and i will change my winter coat with sunscreen.

Tic-tac...

Regii soselelor

Cam atat:)

It's all about the strategy

Last night I went out...I usually don't do it in the middle of the day, but last night I did it. I don't want to say what a great time I had, because the "greatest" lesson of them all I learned it at the end, on the way back home.

When I exit the club, looking for a cab, we asked the first driver we saw if he took us home, but right in the moment when we wanted to get on the cab a guy just opened the front door and got in the cab with the excuse he was the one who called him. OK (we said)...and as we where backing away trying to find another cab he told us we can share it if we are on the same way..."fortunately" for us we were having the same way back...so we got in the cab.

There are no words and no need to discribe this guy...because after a few minutes on our way, he called someone and the following conversation occured:

"My pants are in your car....and how am I suposed to pay the cab?"

On the back seat we struggled not to burst into laughter and assured him that we are going to pay for the cab fare.

He got out of the car at the middle of our way home assuring us that next time we see each other in the club he will buy us drinks.

Looking forword to those drinks:))

Happy postcrossing!

I am not a collector in the right sense of the word, but a few weeks ago my friend, Lavinia, initiated me in the world of postcrossing.

The goal of this project is to allow people to receive postcards from all over the world, for free. Well, almost free! The main idea is that: if you send a postcard, you will receive at least one back from a random Postcrosser from somewhere in the world.

The element of surprise of receiving postcards from different places in the world (many of which you probably have never heard of) can turn your mailbox into a box of surprises - and who wouldn't like that?

It wasn't exacly the thrill of receiving mail from foreigners that attracted my attention but more the fact that I will have the chance to discover new and interesting places in this world.

Yesterday evening I have discovered in the mail the first postcard...it was from Istanbul, a city I have refused to visit last year even though a friend continously insised on it...and now she even told me that receiving the first card from Istanbul is a sign I definetly have to visit it.

At this moment I have 8 postcards sent, 5 of which are still travelling. Can't wait to receive more and more postcards:)

Caught up in the snow

It's monday morning again...nothing special about that...but when I got out of the house the harsh reality hit me like a train.

The thing is that I did not exit the appartment all weekend trying to get ride of a nasty cold I got last week...so I spent most of the time in bed...and it was soooo nice and warm in there that I did not imagine what was going on outside. Of course I could see that it started snowing somewhere Saturday morning and it snow continously for 2 whole days...but I was still confident that I was going to go to work in my car Monday morning.

Unfortunately for me the reality in front of my appartment building was not the one I imagined from my room. I could barely see my car underneath the tones of snow...and beeing parked on the main road all the snow from the road was pushed aside toward the margins, blocking this way all the parked cars:) I took a large breath of fresh air and headed toward the tram.

Hope it will stop snowing soon...I hate this city even more while is snowing.

It is settled

Even since my last trip, to the Scandinavian Countries, I was thinking on changing the continent this year, but I was mainly thinking at Latin America.

In a previous post I was planning a new adventure. It all began on the last year's Christmas day, when I recived a quite interesting invitation on Couch Surfing.

The enthusiasm from receiving the invitation past after a few more days, but after talking to a friend, who felt the same way I did the day I got it, it all came back. An then, when I saw there was someone else supporting the idea of such adventure I knew it can become real.

This destination is unique...it's another world, entirely different from our own..it's INDIA

This week we bought the plane tickets for March, so there's no turning back now...I can't wait to get there :)

My physical limits

This weekend I had the urge to get on the bike again and I had the luck of a very nice weather...so I gathered two more bike enthusiasts and we left Bucharest around 12.30 towards Cernica.

All was nice and wonderful until my two buddies came with the idea of a forest ride...

and I will leave the photos to show where I was last Sunday for about 3 hours (at one point I realy believed there was no way out of that forest):

And imagine at one moment in all that wilderness and mud 3 animals like this one were suddenly running toward us...in the few seconds my brain took to realize that there was a fence my heart stoped beating...

When we finnaly exit the forest there was mud everywhere...

Although I love biking I know my physical limits and that day they were reached...that's why at one point, late in the evening, on the way back to bucharest I "drown like a gypsy at shore" (like the boys told me) and I called a friend to pick me up.

That was the story ot that day...there will be others when I hope to improve my resistance.

I just don't get it

This morning I had to wake up at 5.30 because I had to catch a 7.35 flight to Cluj Napoca.

Everything was nice and smooth until the boarding moment. Of course all the flights were delayed due to heavy fog (understandable). Each 5 minutes the message: "Dear passangers, the flight no XXX to ABC is delayed do to weather conditions. We appologies and we thank you for your understanding" was heard in the speakers...WHAT FUCKING UNDERSTANDING???...I know it's an official message but it's freaking annoying...

The boarding of our flight was programmed at 07:05...of course it did not happen, but what really pissed me of was the fact that when they decided we should go to the airplane they put us on the bus and we waited...and we waited...I think we just stood there in the bus about 20 minutes until 2 idiots made their way to the gate...I'm just wondering now, after you do the check-in, beside going to the bathroom and drinking a coffee, which takes in average 10 minutes, what else can you do...can you get lost???...maybe, but how idiot can you be??? IS IT MEEEE??? :)))

Gusrabaaaaa...:))

Winter vacation

One of the reasons that I haven't written any new posts is firstly because during my stay at home i had a very bad internet connection and secondly because since I came back in Bucharest I had to struggle a little bit to reenter in the rhythm. Now I finally have some peace and quiet time to tell you all about my winter vacation.

It all started on the 23rd of December when I left Bucharest hopping for a great 11 days vacation.

The first event was Christmas...successfully spent at my aunt's.

Next was the amazing party Fane organized at his place for his name day:

The week 27-31 December I spent it visiting people and enjoying the snow almost as much as I used to do when I was a little girl:

The final event was the NYE which was "organized" in the last moment (one day before) t my place:))...and we did what we do best...play around:))...until the first sunrise of 2011:

That was it. Everything was fun...but now I'm back in this stinky city trying to get back in the old life rhythm.

P.S.: I'm planning a huge adventure, but I'll tell you more when I have something concrete.

Love u. Take care.
