Amazing holiday

After 3 weeks out of Bucharest I am back :((. The first 2 weeks of work in Bistrita and Targu Mures were successfully followed by 4 days of incredible time in Sfantu Gheorghe.

I am going to focus here only on those 4 days spent in my favorite place in this country. After long negotiations and planning we ended up to be 7 volunteers for the adventure in the Danube’s Delta.

The departure was planned Wednesday morning around 8.30 as the ferry taking us to Sf. Gheorghe was leaving from Tulcea at 13.30. You there’s a saying about the roads one takes to get somewhere. “The road you know it’s the fastest”…well, we forgot about this saying and on the incredible highway A2 to the seaside one of the drivers thought to change the route and with the help of a navigation system of a HTC Desire we ended up on a far forgotten country road where we had to dodge the craters in the road. That is why around 1 o’clock we were still so far away from Tulcea.

What to do? I knew that that ferry was the only one that day and the chance to find some private boats for such a long way was quite small. Trying to recall my past visits to the delta I remembered that long ago when I was travelling with some friends from Pitesti we bought tickets just for the first stop, which was Mahmudia, although we were heading to Sf. Gheorghe.(what can I say…we were young and broke:)))

So, with the help of a friend (thanks Rux for the number) I called Navrom and found out that the ferry was going to arrive at Mahmudia at 3 o’clock. We could still catch that ferry. The only problem remained the road between Tulcea and Mahmudia, neither of us knew anything about it and on the “amazing” navigation system (which we won’t ever use) it looked like a country road as well. We were sick and tired of that kind of roads so we began calling all the people we knew from Tulcea to ask about the conditions of that road. Fortunately for us, those 28 km from Tulcea to Mahmudia were the best part of the road and we got there in time to catch the ferry.

After all the adventure of the route we ended up in Sf. Gheorghe around 5 p.m. The place itself was quite the same. I even got to recognize some people from last year, persons I don’t really know but recognized their faces from past experiences. The problem this year was the heat. It was so HOT that in the morning the heat kicked us out of the tents. This year we were quite lazy and spent most of our time on the beach or sleeping under any piece of shadow that we could find. For the rest I am going to let the photos speak for themselves.

Declared the greatest photo of the holiday:))
